Late Shri Manohar Parrikar

Use of strong “Will-Power” Vs “Desiring”?

Dr. Vinod K. Gupta,

Thinker, Writer & Psychologist

We find similarity on various issues between Manohar Parrikar and Mahatma Gandhi. Both were simple, approachable, honest, close to the masses. Only sharp difference was Manohar Parrikar used strong “Will-Power”. Whereas, Mahatma Gandhi only desired and his ‘desiring’ became instrumental for country’s Political Freedom from the clutches of Britishers. On the other hand, use of strong “Will-Power” caused an early demise of Shri Parrikar who country’s Defence Minister and Chief Minister of Goa was. He was appreciated by Media for his commitment for devoting to the welfare of Goa. Media showed him asking how is the Josh? In fact, he was keeping high Morale during advanced stage of Pancreatic Cancer. Rather, he was hearing the knocking of death but continued to serve the state till his earlier demise.

It will be difficult to appreciate the ‘need for desiring’ through heart, unless I explain the psycho-physiological aspects of our life.

For our survival three systems are very vital, i.e. Immune System, Endocrine System and Nervous System. Head quarter of ‘nervous system’ is in the brain. Main function of our brain is to allow all the three systems independently to function optimally and co-ordinating among them. So that, we live life as a unique individual. This crucial job our brain does very silently and hence, we are not aware of this fact.

Likewise, we live between two universes, i.e. under the skin and above the skin. Continuously, we are getting threats and challenges in the form of viruses of diseases and opportunities and hurdles from the external universe. This we know as external universe – like environment and big universe of Planets. Similarly, another universe we have under the skin of our body that is continuously sending messages in the form of ‘needs and presses’ for our survival and growth. The job of our brain is to decide priority among the various messages. That is, which is to be done immediately and which can be delayed?

We are not aware of the working of our survival system, except feeling light headedness, heaviness or head ache. In brief, for laymen, brain is known for concentration, memory and decision making. Those can impress through memory power, make right decision which can meet future requirements are known as brilliant or genius.

In case, during emergency if we use ‘Will-Power” or strong “Will-Power” we put extra burden on our brain that is already over loaded by continuous threats, hurdles, needs and presses from both the universes. As a result, functioning of our survival system gets disturbed. Anything may happen from joint pain, diabetes, cancer – depending upon the structure and functions of our “Personality”. According to R.B. Cattell, “Personality is perfect prediction.”

Recall the incidence that took place in South Africa when Gandhi was thrown from the train. He felt insulted. Out of reaction, what he did? He desired freedom from the rule of Britishers. Rest is the history. Finally, Britishers were compelled to leave India and country got Freedom.

On the other hand, Manohar Parrikar to show his love to the people of Goa used to enjoy tea and snacks at any roadside shop as a measure of friendship and closeness. He preferred to relish a fish of Goa.

Very rarely he was wearing suite. Otherwise, he preferred full pent, sandals and half shirt. He was going to office as a CM, Goa on his scooter. Many times, he was checked by security personnel who were not recognizing him by face.

Now the question is “What made him to fall prey of an early demise?” It was basically use of strong “Will-Power”. You may question best kind of medical treatment available to him at AIIMS, New Delhi, Leelawati at Mumbai and US Hospitals. True, but medical science treats the person with a mechanical approach. Again, you may question in US Hospitals services of Psychiatrists as well as Psychologists are available. Off-course, but the attitude of the patient is important.

Unfortunately, whosoever is in politics he is to compete with time and numbers. Nature does not differentiate who is competing with what but releases the hormone that ultimately kills. Like our Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley and External Minister Srimati Sushma Swaraj. Both are compelled to undergo for Kidney implant. This is due to the fact of Personality Structure and its functioning in the life of the individual.

Other day, our Home Minister Shri Raj Nath Singh informed that Shri Parrikar went for the purchase of Rafael Jet Fighter from France. Two surgical strikes were performed during his tenure and he was present throughout the operations of surgical strikes.

Rahul Gandhi, Congress President visited him just for curtsey call when he was severely sick. After the meeting he informed Media that Parrikar has told Chowkidar, PM Shri Narendra Modi pressurized France Government to favour Anil Ambani. Shri Parrikar expressed his annoyance and told Rahul Gandhi is lying.

I don’t know anybody as person, but I can make out what a politician will do if I observe him/her on TV. My feeling is the growth of both son and daughter, Rahul and Priyanka have been crushed by dominating mother, that is, Sonia Gandhi. You can recall how did she act as Super Woman when Dr. Man Mohan Singh was Prime Minister. In fact, Rahul will convert Congress as Sevadal to fulfil the desire of Mahatma Gandhi. As he is short of right decision making at appropriate time. In case, Congress gets some seats in Lok Sabha elections it will be due to name of Gandhi is attached.

Say some 10 or 15 years ago one of my students working as Financial Advisor in Scotland informed Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi and brother-in-law of Rahul Gandhi brings antiques from India and sell in Western Market as short cut measure to become rich. Vadra is from my town Moradabad, UP. To me he looks like a psychopath, not gentleman.                                                                                                                                      Dr. Vinod K.
